How do I determine if a company is publicly traded on a stock exchange?

Our response:

Each company traded on a stock exchange has a ticker symbol that is used to identify the investment. Usually, an exchange provides a function on their website to either search by ticker symbol or by company name. Additionally, you may wish to check the websites for companies that interest you. Companies usually have sections on their website that  contain disclosure documents such as, annual reports, quarterly statements, news releases etc. that will help make an informed investing decision. You can also check the OSC’s Reporting Issuer List to see if a company is a publicly traded company in Ontario.
