Our response:
Scam calls claiming to be from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) are becoming more common, and can be alarming. Often the callers will claim that you owe money and threaten legal action against you.
Never provide any personal information over the phone if you are not sure who you are speaking to. The best action to take in these cases is to hang up the phone. Sometimes scammers also contact people using email or text messages – in these cases, delete the messages and never click on any links provided.
If you think you do owe money to the CRA, you can call them back at the phone number listed on their website, or check CRA’s My Account online. Learn more about protecting yourself from this type of fraud from the CRA.
