What happens to stock is one company merges with another company?

Our response:

If the company is a public company (reporting issuer) in Canada, information about the merger will typically be on the System for Electronic Document Analysis & Retrieval (SEDAR) at www.sedar.com.

There may be a Management Information Circular filed that explains what will happen to securities (like stocks) held by investors, as a result of the transaction, if the transaction is approved.

If you have questions about a particular merger, you can call the OSC’s Inquiries & Contact Centre.
